Principal Investigators

Dr Harriet Over

I am a developmental and social psychologist. I research social learning, social motivation and intergroup biases in children and adults. My research has been funded by the European Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council, and the Leverhulme Trust.

Dr Steven Tipper

I am a cognitive psychologist. I research social cognition, attention, motor control and links between cognition and emotion in a range of populations. My research has been funded by BBSRC, ESRC, Leverhulme, Wellcome Trust and industry.

Postdoctoral Research Associates

Dr Florence Enock

I am a social psychologist primarily interested in intergroup processes. I study the causes and consequences of social biases such as ingroup favouritism, outgroup derogation and prejudice.

Dr Jonathan Flavell

I am a cognitive psychologist. I research how perception and emotion can be manipulated to affect preference and choice behaviour. I am also interested in social cognition, motor control and motion prediction. My research has been funded by The British Academy and the Leverhulme Trust.

PhD students

Adam Eggleston

I am currently interested in how children form impressions of others as well as the social and cultural influences on these impressions. My research focuses on how these first impressions may be learned from an early age and what effect they have on both children's and adults' behaviour.

Juliana Olivier

I research prosociality, moral development, and intergroup bias in children and adults.

Lab alumni

Dr Janine Oostenbroek

Janine completed postdoctoral work in the Social Origins Lab. Following this, she accepted a postdoctoral position at the University of Virginia.

Dr Niamh McLoughlin

Niamh completed her PhD in 2017. Following her PhD, she completed a postdoc at Boston University. She is now an Assistant Professor at the University of Kent.

Dr Ruth Lee

Ruth undertook postdoctoral work at the Social Origins Lab, and is currently a Lecturer (Education) at Queen's University Belfast.
